CELTIC CUP AWARD

The Celtic Cup is the award which is a “thank you” for the best appreciated society presentation at the Festival. The award itself consists of an engraved bowl or cup, and one or two engraved Celtic Society medals. The bowl becomes the property of the winning organization, and the medals go to the individuals in charge of the display (those who signed the application/releaseform). If a display has only one person in charge, only one medal is awarded.

This award is given to the people without whom there would be no reason for this Festival. The award honors the display that best shows the qualities and variety of heritage and culture of the Celtic peoples, and typifies the ideals of the Celtic Society. Sponsored annually, the cup, which enjoys a long history in Celtic legend in various forms (cauldron, grail, et al.), signifies our varied yet common past. Because the sponsoring society chooses its form, which can thus change from year to year, it also signifies our variety in the present.

Judging is based on a combination of the display itself and the persons staffing the display. Three judges, one from the sponsoring organization, one from last year's winning organization, and one from the Celtic Society, score the various displays (none of the three groups competes). Each judge may award a total of 1,000 points, according to the following categories:

Display

1. Layout 0-100 points 1. Appearance 0-100 points
2. Materials 0-100 points 2. Friendliness 0-100 points
3. Quality/Clarity 0-100 points 3. Helpfulness 0-100 points
4. Overall 0-200 points

Total Points:  up to 500 Total Points:  up to 500

The judges total up their individual scores, and the clan or society with the highest total wins. In the event of a tie, the judges make the final decision for the winner, based on a review of the tied displays.

This year the Celtic Cup is sponsored by The Davis Family & C&R Custom Engraving. Anne Slesinger and her successor Linda Lee Eggar-Kelley of Clan Gunn were the generous sponsors of this award since its inception through the 2000 Festival. The previous winners have been:
