A prince can mak a belted knight,
A marquis, duke, an a' that!
But an honest man's aboon his might -
Guid faith, he mauna fa' that!
For a' that, an a' that,
Their dignities, an a' that,
The pith o sense an pride o worth,
Are higher rank than a' that.
(Robert Burns)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to you in the hope that my fellow Scots and Burns enthusiasts can help us out.

My name is John Grant from Kilmarnock Ayrshire, Scotland - home of the first edition of Robert Burns poems and birthplace and home of Johnnie Walker Whisky since 1820. Unfortunately, London (England) based owners Diageo are going to close the factory and move it elsewhere, despite making a profit of £1.6 billion this year alone. Kilmarnock unemployment will rise by 70% and thousands will lose their livelihoods and homes.

When Massey-Ferguson closed its doors in Kilmarnock during the late 70's, it devastated the community, people lost their jobs, their homes, their pride and some even took their own lives.

As a proud Scot and Ayrshire man, I am asking for your help to stop this happening again. I cannot allow suffering on my doorstep due to greed and I am calling for support from yourself and everyone in your area and beyond.

You may be aware that a few years ago Diageo attempted to also take Guinness away from Dublin but thankfully failed due to public outrage.

I am begging you, as someone who understands the history of Ayrshire, that you help us stop our whisky heritage being taken away by people who do not care for our culture.

I desperately need people to go to http://www.savejohnniewalker.org and sign the petition, spread the word the world over and ensure that everyone you know signs the petition.

Thanks!
